Sections of the beach should be zoned for various activities: Sporting Zones for frisbee, volleyball, paddle ball, etc., Watercraft Access Zones where personal watercrafts, boats, kayaks, canoes, paddle boards, etc. can safely access the beach (no swimming) Small Craft Lock-up area - add some secure structures (steel rails with concrete foundations) where people can secure small sailboats, skiffs, kayaks, paddle ...more »

New Median Lighting

Put landscape lighting in the median all the way down atlantic blvd (from beach to Dixie), north on Dixie up to MLK Blvd and then continue this same lighting down Martin Luther King Blvd. The goal is to UNITE Atlantic Blvd and Martin Luther King Blvd. Many people know of Atlantic and many DONT know of MLK Blvd OR they dont' feel safe. The lighting needs to be "unique" - different than other South Florida cities so ...more »

parks

We have lovely parks in Pompano Beach, but the play areas cannot be used by our children or grandchildren, because the swing seats, slides, etc., get so hot they can't sit on them. They need to be covered in some way to provide shade for cool seats. What good are the parks, if they can't be used? It was very upsetting for my grandson when we visited.

UNITY

Going Green Initiatives

I think we could distinguish our city by creating a committee dedicated to environmental awareness and instilling green initiatives. Pompano Beach has already received awards for the "ICanWater" program. Let's gain momentum from this and take it a step further. If the City creates a committee of citizens to add ideas and gain momentum from the residents, I believe this could not only improve the unity of our community ...more »

Create Shaded Bus Stops

Create Shaded / Covered Bus stops: Green bus stops were recently installed (some wide and some narrow). The narrow ones are a waste of tax payer money as they don’t shade a person from rain or the sun. ALL of the Bus Stops on Dixie Hwy, A1A, Atlantic Blvd, MLK Blvd and Federal should be covered properly shaded / protected for pedestrians.

Make More "Open Air" Restaurants / Clubs on Atlantic Blvd

Take existing buildings and push the wall adjacent to the sidewalk back to create an outdoor covered patio space for dining, music venues, etc. (See how they are doing this in Wilton Manors with existing buildings) Possibly use CRA Money to assist any business that will do this with their building. This includes large buildings (e.g. bank buildings) that would sacrifice the Atlantic side of their building for a restaurant ...more »

Make Drivers AWARE that Atlantic Blvd IS Pompano’s MAIN STREET

I have visited South Florida since I have been 3 years old (now 54). When you drive up / down US1 and you are unfamiliar with Pompano Beach, you don’t know that Atlantic Blvd IS our Main street! Option 1) On the large metal arm holding the traffic light in both a northerly and southerly direction there is an existing sign that says “Atlantic Blvd”. ADD an additional “lighted” sign that says “Pompano’s Main Street”. ...more »

Reduce the lanes in front of City Hall

Currently there are 8 lanes in front of city Hall. This is a major divide between city hall (and the future library) and Old Pompano City. Reduce the lanes from 8 to 6 lanes (2 lanes each direction and a turning lane). This will help to try and join City Hall and the Old city of Pompano and make this area more pedrestrian friendly. Also shade all sidewalks.

Hire People to Patrol the new Beach Area

This person will have many duties. Notify the city of any maintenance that is needed, act as an Ambassador for Pompano Beach, ensure that People are using the beach and new equipment properly, and make all visitors feel safe at the beach. Note: there are people that have a negative feeling about Pompano Beach so the goal is to ensure that people who visit don't have a negative experience. Ensure that Pompano Beach ...more »

Create an Outdoor Movie Screen / Experience

. Option 1) Take the other ½ of the large lot on the corner of Atlantic Blvd and A1A (next to the new parking lot) and build a large wall / park that can be used as an outdoor movie theatre. This idea is similar to the theatre on the outside wall of the New World Symphony Concert Hall on Miami Beach. Option 2) Create a movie screen in McNab Park along with additional parking.

BEAUTIFICATION

Shade "X" Percent of All Sidewalks / Walkways

Make it a goal of the City of Pompano Beach and all residents to shade "x" percent (e.g. like 50% - 75%) of all sidewalks to make the city a more comfortable place to walk or ride bikes in the summer. Some examples of where shading is needed are: Atlantic Blvd from Beach to I-95 (or further west), Federal Hwy, A1A, Around the Pompano Air Park / Blimp base, to shade all playground equipment, etc. Possibly use Live Oaks ...more »

Plant Additional Plants along the Pompano Air Park.

New Trees have been planted on the West side of the Air Park. The South side of the Air Park (along NE 10th Street) and along the North side (Copans Road) does not have many trees that shade the sidewalk. During the summer these areas are brutal for riding your bike or walking (even in the evening). Plant trees along the South, North, and East sides of the Park to shade you when you are riding your bikes, walking ...more »

Give McNab Park a Make-Over

Totally make-over McNab Park to encourage more use and to make it feel safer and more “vibrant” and fun. It is dark at night and underutilized. Ideas for change: 1) increase the lighting so that the park feels safe can be used up until 11pm / midnight, 2) remove shuffleboard courts OR get some leagues / tournaments going that will get the courts vibrant including leagues that run at night. 3) Increase the parking ...more »

Trash Pickup in Old Pompano and West of Dixie Highway

When you drive into these residential areas there is a great deal more trash around then in other areas of Pompano. Make a city wide plan to try and get these areas so there is less trash around. Some ideas: 1) Ensure that large trash pickup is done on a regular basis 2) that people are educated on when large trash goes out 3) that there are neighborhood clean-up efforts, etc. The goal would be to have these areas ...more »

Create a lighting policy that limits light pollution

Night time lighting of a building or residence is as important as what it looks like during the daylight. Light pollution to me is any lighting fixture that you can “see” the filament AND the light is TOO Bright! Some examples of light pollution are: Gas stations where the lights are NOT recessed into the awning 2) The New Publix on Atlantic’s lights: too many of them and too bright.
