This is a site where you can offer your ideas in response to specific questions about the future of Pompano Beach. You will be able to see the ideas that other residents have offered, offer a comment if you want, and vote for or against those ideas. When you submit an idea, you will have the choice of using your name or submitting simply as "community member". When you offer an idea, give it a brief title in the first line and then explain it in the second line.
To participate you will need to register so that the software can calculate your votes and comments. This information is kept strictly inside the program and not made available to anyone other than the software administrators. To register, simply click on the SUBMIT button, and you will be taken to registration if this is your first use of the site.
You see on the left a tab that says "question". Listed there are all seven questions we will ask over the course of the next five weeks with a brief title for each question. Click on that, and you will see the question itself. Every four or five days we will focus on a different question, but you can offer ideas on any question at any time. To submit an idea, just click on the SUBMIT button.
Please be sure to visit the site often to see new ideas as well as comment and votes on ideas already submitted. After reading comments, you can change your original vote if you want.

Fishing Zones
Pet/Dog Zones
Activity Zones will attract active people to Pompano Beach since so many other municipalities limit such activities.

Studies have shown that walkable neighborhoods are more and more important to people. Such planning can help to encourage multigenerational neighborhoods as well as local commerce.
I think we could distinguish our city by creating a committee dedicated to environmental awareness and instilling green initiatives. Pompano Beach has already received awards for the "ICanWater" program. Let's gain momentum from this and take it a step further. If the City creates a committee of citizens to add ideas and gain momentum from the residents, I believe this could not only improve the unity of our community but also attract like minded families and businesses to move to Pompano Beach. For example, a community co-op organic garden, not only for our residents but for local schools to teach children about sustainability, health and agriculture. Recycling education and promotion. Time exchange. Solar power clinics. The list goes on. :)

Fill in the swale at the park to make more usable space for playing and picnics. Who wants to have a picnic on an angle or at the bottom of a possibly wet swale? No one. Turn it into a slight hill so that people sitting on the hill can see over the wooden fence at waters edge to view the boats, water / waves, and the lighthouse.

The lighting needs to be "unique" - different than other South Florida cities so that people remember it as a trademark of Pompano. "Unique" could mean having LED violet colored lights for example.

We have lovely parks in Pompano Beach, but the play areas cannot be used by our children or grandchildren, because the swing seats, slides, etc., get so hot they can't sit on them. They need to be covered in some way to provide shade for cool seats. What good are the parks, if they can't be used? It was very upsetting for my grandson when we visited.
We need to form a Business Development Board with key strategic leaders throughout the city.
The city hall building at night is unrecognizable. Two options: 1) light the existing sign on the front of the building or 2) put a nice light sign out near the road with lights on it. Also u may want to move the bus stop structure so that the sign is clearly visible.
Make it a goal of the City of Pompano Beach and all residents to shade "x" percent (e.g. like 50% - 75%) of all sidewalks to make the city a more comfortable place to walk or ride bikes in the summer. Some examples of where shading is needed are: Atlantic Blvd from Beach to I-95 (or further west), Federal Hwy, A1A, Around the Pompano Air Park / Blimp base, to shade all playground equipment, etc. Possibly use Live Oaks ...more »

Just as has been done with the Oasis Water Program make the use of Solar Power in Pompano Beach a goal for residents and the City Government. Make Pompano Beach a destination for people to learn about and view solar projects. Track the number of businesses and residents that use solar power.
Take /rent the lot at the beach park just north of 14th street causeway and turn it into more paid parking for the beach - just like was just done in the lot just north of Atlantic blvd at the beach
Create some additional parking for the park at the Hillsboro inlet. This could be catty corner southwest of the existing parking lot.
A1A north of Atlantic up to where it merges with pompano beach blvd is TOO wide. Reduce it down to mo more than 1 lane each direction and 1 turning lane (3 total). Take the space and create wide green shaded walkways either on both sides or on 1 side. This very wide roadway: 1) cuts the beach in half. 2) makes drivers feel as though they can /should drive faster and 3)ales pedrestrians feel unsafe.
Take existing buildings and push the wall adjacent to the sidewalk back to create an outdoor covered patio space for dining, music venues, etc. (See how they are doing this in Wilton Manors with existing buildings) Possibly use CRA Money to assist any business that will do this with their building. This includes large buildings (e.g. bank buildings) that would sacrifice the Atlantic side of their building for a restaurant ...more »

I have visited South Florida since I have been 3 years old (now 54). When you drive up / down US1 and you are unfamiliar with Pompano Beach, you don’t know that Atlantic Blvd IS our Main street! Option 1) On the large metal arm holding the traffic light in both a northerly and southerly direction there is an existing sign that says “Atlantic Blvd”. ADD an additional “lighted” sign that says “Pompano’s Main Street”. ...more »

Encourage Multi-unit Residential Development along Atlantic Blvd. For example: a business on ground floor and residential above. This has been happening in Wilton Manors with 3 story units (business on ground floor and 2 story town home above) Helps to turn the street into more of a pedestrian street.
Currently there are 8 lanes in front of city Hall. This is a major divide between city hall (and the future library) and Old Pompano City. Reduce the lanes from 8 to 6 lanes (2 lanes each direction and a turning lane). This will help to try and join City Hall and the Old city of Pompano and make this area more pedrestrian friendly. Also shade all sidewalks.

. Option 1) Take the other ½ of the large lot on the corner of Atlantic Blvd and A1A (next to the new parking lot) and build a large wall / park that can be used as an outdoor movie theatre. This idea is similar to the theatre on the outside wall of the New World Symphony Concert Hall on Miami Beach. Option 2) Create a movie screen in McNab Park along with additional parking.
Plant trees along the trail on the south side of the park (south of the Tennis Courts) so that this jogging trail is shaded when people run / walk on it.
New Trees have been planted on the West side of the Air Park. The South side of the Air Park (along NE 10th Street) and along the North side (Copans Road) does not have many trees that shade the sidewalk. During the summer these areas are brutal for riding your bike or walking (even in the evening). Totally make-over McNab Park to encourage more use and to make it feel safer and more “vibrant” and fun. It is dark at night and underutilized.
